A shaped jacket with a high collar, and a high-waisted trouser cut wide through the leg, in one cloth. Bought as a suit for the days that ask for one — worn as two separate pieces the rest of the week.

WHAT MAKES IT WORK

• Shaped jacket: Cut in at the waist instead of falling straight, so it holds a line without a belt.
• High collar and zip front: Closes right up to the neck, which is what lets it be worn with nothing underneath.
• Gold-tone buttons: Decorative buttons at the front, the detail that stops it reading as office uniform.
• High waist, wide leg: The waistband sits at the narrowest point and the leg falls straight from the hip. That is what lengthens the line, not the heel.
• Elasticated back waistband: Set into the back of the trouser waist, so it takes up the difference where your waist and hip disagree.
• Fabric blended with elastane: Enough give to sit down in without the jacket pulling across the back.

• Choosing your size: This suit is cut generously, so check the size guide before you pick. It gives the finished jacket chest, trouser waist and shoulder in centimetres, and those numbers are a surer guide than the label. The jacket is the piece with the least give; the trouser waist is elasticated at the back and will follow.
• Wear it with: A plain heel and nothing else competing. Or split it — the jacket over jeans, the trousers with a knit.
